Call for evidence has closed: Emissions reduction targets and emissions budgets

4 August 2023

Ngā mihi to all those who made a submission to our call for evidence on emissions reduction targets and emissions budgets.

Between 31 March and 31 July 2023, we asked people to share information, insights and expertise that could inform our analysis and draft advice on three areas of work related to Aotearoa New Zealand's emissions reduction targets and emissions budgets.

Engagement is at the heart of what we do at the Commission. Our work affects all New Zealanders, and it’s important that our work is informed by a broad range of feedback and perspectives as we develop and finalise our advice. We value these contributions – they help us ensure that the work we do is relevant, efficient and informed.

Submissions received

We have received a variety of submissions from individuals, community groups, NGOs, research institutions, businesses and industry bodies, representing a wide range of sectors.

Submissions covered all three topics:

What happens next

We will review and consider every piece of evidence we received, and use it where appropriate to inform our analysis.

We will then develop the three pieces of draft advice focused on Aotearoa New Zealand's options for contributing to the global effort under the Paris Agreement to limit global average temperature increase to 1.5°C above preindustrial levels.

These three pieces of draft advice will open for consultation, likely (but not yet confirmed) in April/May 2024.
