Advice on the fourth emissions budget (2036–2040)

What should the maximum quantity of emissions for this five-year period be? Is there a need to revise emissions budgets one, two and three?

Overview

Every five years, the Commission reviews Aotearoa New Zealand's emissions budgets that have already been set, and recommends the maximum level of the next emissions budget.

We are preparing our advice on the fourth emissions budget, for the period 2036–2040. Consultation on our draft advice took place between 8 April and 31 May 2024.
